Jess's Story

I wanted to write something about Jess. This blog has almost entirely been devoted to the pups so far but without Jess they wouldn't be here, so I think it is only fair that she gets a starring role in the blog. I will start a new post label just for Jess and build up posts about her and her life with us, so that you can all come to know a bit more about her.
Jess was my birthday present from Andy just over 2 years ago. Andy had kept Jess's arrival a total secret from me and I can honestly say, I did not have a clue. Andy had been in contact with the breeder since the litter was born, and had made numerous visits across to Kirby Lonsdale, initially to choose Jess at 4 weeks, but then to get to know her a little bit more in the weeks prior to her coming to live with us. It still amazes me that he was so good at keeping this a secret, there is no way I could have done it. I once bought Andy a leather jacket for Christmas, I knew it was something he really wanted, and I was so excited about it - I went straight home and gave it to him! Keep a puppy secret for 7 weeks? I wouldn't have lasted 7 minutes!
The weekend of my birthday we were spending in London, taking in a show, travelling back sunday evening on the train. Andy had arranged for his eldest daughter Kelly to collect Jess from the breeder whilst we were out. I thought he was on the phone a lot on the way home, but really thought nothing of it........
We arrived home and there was an enormous box in the hallway as I opened the front door - all gift wrapped, but making an awful noise and stinking of poo. I said to Andy - why has Kelly put her dog in there? (She has two lhasa apso dogs) He must have thought I was mental - he said open it and see! As I pulled off the paper, the smell got worse, but I was met with the most adorable black face ever - it was Jess, covered in poo! We quickly picked her up and whipped her into the sink for a bath, and this is the first photograph we ever took of the new arrival into our house!
